The Best Career you Never Heard of ….
I love my career … I love that I have a skill that few have. It makes me so proud to get the opportunity to SHARE that career with anyone who is interested or will listen!
Please take the almost 9 minutes and really watch this video - when I saw it I thought it was the most powerful and inviting description of what we do that it almost brought me to tears. I LOVE THIS PROFESSION! It challenges me in new ways every.single.day - I go to new places and meet new people and hear new things every.single.day!
I’m the competitive type - I like anything that challenges me and keeps me on my toes. I’ve told numerous students that what I do every day is similar to a video game with different levels of difficulty. Words are coming at me at different speeds and different difficulty levels, and my job is to group them quickly and grab them and input them into my writer in MY language - that is adaptable to ME. The fundamental theory of the steno “language” is the same, but the beauty is that I can make it my own — and I do. OH, and because I like to WIN when I play … building my skills is actually fun :)
Please tell all your friends to watch this … send it to your high school kids to watch, and tell them to share it with THEIR friends. What few do NOT know is that these skills can be learned WHILE in high school - online! There are no limits to what you can do! You could be earning REAL $$ as soon as you finish the program. If you start in high school, you could presumably be working right after you graduate!

This career has been so good to me. It has allowed me the freedom to own my own business, develop a client base and now, hopefully, be able to give back in the form of student recruitment. I am personally (now) mentoring several steno students, and I am heavily involved as a board member of GCRA with our student membership, providing intern opportunities and assisting with whatever they may need - down to what you might think was the smallest question :)
